Just a Coincidence?

There is an agreement where the United Arab Emirates, well actually a company based in the United Arab Emirates that would transfer the power of operating several of our ports from a British owned company. This Arab country just happened to donate about $400 million to the hurricane Katrina relief effort back in September of 2005. This happened to be more money than we received from all the other foreign aid combined. This deal was inked in November. Just a coincidence? Bush’s stance…First it was “We have thoroughly reviewed all the security issues surrounding this deal and have no problems with letting this deal go forward” to “ We didn’t really know all the aspects of the deal and just found out about it a few days ago’. How stupid does the administration think we are? Bush asks the question” What kind of signal would it send to the rest of the world if we can let a British based company run the ports but not an Arab based company?” So…now he is concerned will what kind of signals our moves send? What kind of “signal” did it send when we clearly had evidence that Osama Bin Laden was the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks yet we go in and attack Iraq ‘cause we think they might be working on weapons of mass destruction? Korea HAS nukes and has said in no uncertain terms, “we got ‘em, we are going to keep ‘em, and if you step to us…we will us ‘em”. Our response to them? “We will deal with them through diplomatic channels”. Give me a break. If you really watch him speak unscripted, he shows us all just how goofy he is.
Many folks do not see anything wrong with the President allowing wire taps or eavesdropping on conversations of “suspected” terrorists or those believed to have terrorist ties without getting a warrant. His reasoning is, he will do what ever it takes to keep Americans safe. The problem we all should have with this is that the checks and balances that the founders of this country had designed to keep no one branch of government from getting too powerful are being circumvented. Our concern should not only be how our rights are being chipped away at now, but how these steps will be twisted in the future. Today, it’s targeting possible terrorist ties- tomorrow it may be suspected drug dealers (they “terrorize” neighborhoods?) or those that contribute money to political parties other than the one in power. Trust me, I do not want to see us get attacked again but I also do not think it is wise for us to allow anything get by us under the “scare tactic” of remember 9/11. When was the last time there was an elevated terror alert? Are we rally that much safer now that we do not have any more alerts? Just a coincidence?
The Vice President is involved in a hunting accident. He doesn’t speak about it until almost a week later? Who the hell does he think he is? Oh…my bad…He knows he is the Vice President of the United States and doesn’t have to live up to the same standards as we do. Is it just me or do we hardly ever know where Cheney is or what he is doing. They use the catch phrase “in the best interest of national security….” to get away with not telling us anything. This is by far the most secretive administration in recent memory.
In 2 years we will pick a new president. Hopefully, we will not get caught up in all the moral crap that was tossed around during the last election (gay marriage, abortion, homosexual’s rights, etc) none of which you hear a peep about now. Where are all the black clergy that Bush courted before the election? Where is the legislation that was “promised” to ban gay marriage? Where is Osama Bin Laden? Why don’t we hear about any of those issues anymore? Just a coincidence?
